This is the one product VW has forgotten to design: the California cutting board and serve tray!
Because we have to proliferate with the space we have onboard, there is always a shortage of storage space. When doing the dishes, or cutting bread, this cutting board is the solution. Perfectly designed, every inch is used to give you the maximum space there is. And don’t worry, the glass lid can still close.
And you can take this easily outside as a serve tray for you meal or glasses of wine after doing the dishes, sipping in the evening sun. Enjoy!
The cutting board is made of very durable finger joints beech, digitally designed and CNC machined for a perfect fit. There is no better cutting board to be found in the world! Because this is a natural product, minor variations in color and surface may occur.
It is oiled once with grape seed oil to enhance lifetime and prevent allergic reactions (instead of walnut oil for example). It’s recommended you do this regularly.
Maintenance
How do you maintain the cutting board?
When you finished using your cutting board, wash it immediately. This way, you prevent any food leftovers from damaging the wood.
Don’t wash your wooden cutting board in a dishwasher (but most of us don’t have one on board 😉 ). The cutting board will be washed with too much and too hot water. The corrosive substances in the dishwasher detergent aren’t good for the cutting. Cleaning it is best done with warm water and a sponge.
Wood Cutting Board Oil Options
Treat the board frequently to repel food particles and prevent stains and cracks. It’s best to treat the board at least once a month if used often. It’s important to make sure that the cutting board is clean and dry before applying any of these oil.
Mineral oil
Mineral oil is the most commonly used option because it is a safe and cost effective way to keep your wood cutting board looking great for years. Food safe mineral oil can be purchased at your local drug store or major retailer, I use grape seed oil from Monini.
Apply the mineral oil using a clean cloth and spread evenly over the board.
⇒Avoid vegetable or nut-based oil
Do not use vegetable or nut-based oil on your cutting board for the simple reason that it will spoil and become rancid. This will leave your wood cutting board with an unpleasant smell that will also noticeably change the taste of the food you are preparing.
