Weird black plastic parts?

In some California’s you can find a bag (or 2) with 4 plastic parts and some velcro. Don’t throw it away! It can be extremely useful in case of electric pop-up roof break down!

It’s called the ‘Emergency roof tie down kit’ with VW partnumber 7H7871521 and you need 2 of them, for each side one. Mind you: There is no manual included so I made one. I printed it out and stored it together with the emergency roof tie down kit. But the picture says it all.

In case of a malfunction of the VW poptop roof

First take a long and a short plastic rail and a piece of Velcro from the emergency roof tie down kit.

Attachment of Velcro closure on the right side of the vehicle.
Insert the long plastic rail on the right side of the vehicle into the top aluminum rail of the roof frame as far as it will go, so that the tapered end points towards the rear of the vehicle.
Pull the Velcro through the slit of the small plastic rail. Insert small plastic rail on the right car side into the lower aluminum rail of the roof frame and place it parallel to the plastic rail placed above. When an awning is mounted on the car, slide the small plastic rail with Velcro up to the awning holder.

Pull the top end of the Velcro through the slit of the long plastic rail that you have previously placed in the top roof rail.
Connect both ends of the Velcro firmly together.

Attachment of Velcro closure on the left side of the vehicle.
When securing the manually closed lifting roof on the left vehicle side, proceed as described above.

Drive carefully at an appropriate speed (max 80 km/h) to the nearest Volkswagen specialist to resolve the fault.
